IAEM-Africa Vision

Africa is a continent of over a billion people. A sizeable portion of that population is increasingly vulnerable to many natural hazard events and man-made disasters. The need to build and enhance local capacity to address these varying conditions cannot be overstated. The vision of IAEM-Africa is to enhance local capacity through training and professionalization of the field of disaster and emergency management. IAEM-Africa also seeks to forge an enduring network of African disaster management providers and professionals. Such a network will not only recognize the common natural hazards, threats, and man-made vulnerabilities across the continent, but it will also foster an environment for a shared and common strategy that will help mitigate and minimize disaster impacts on humans and the environment. IAEM-Africa will facilitate a comprehensive approach to disaster and emergency management that emphasizes integration, coordination, collaboration, and other mission areas. IAEM-Africa invites governments, local and international partners, as well as the private sector across the continent to partner with IAEM-Africa and invest in the critical disaster and emergency management resources, education, and training that IAEM-Africa provides to bolster disaster and emergency management capacities.
